With the blessing of the Abbot of St. Silouan’s Monastery in Sonora, CA, His Grace Irenei Bishop of Sacramento and under the auspices of the Youth Committee of the Western American Diocese, chaired by Archpriest Boris Henderson, a volunteer youth workweek is being organized at the monastery from July 2 to July 8, 2017.
Do you have construction or other professional skills? Depending on the abilities of the volunteers, there will be more ambitious projects like the construction of a monastic cell, cutting and milling a large fallen tree, and the repairing of an 1 ½ feet diameter fresh water pipe.
The days will begin and end with prayer with the brethren of the monastery. Spiritual discussions are scheduled for the evenings and there will be time for recreation and sightseeing during the week.
Where? Saint Silouan’s Monastery, 21285 Old Sonora Columbia Road, Sonora, CA 95370-8807.
When? Sunday July 2 to Saturday July 8, 2017.
Who may participate? Willing workers aged 16 years and older who have the blessing and recommendation of their parish priest or spiritual father.
Cost? $125.00/person to offset food and transportation (if need is demonstrated, price is negotiable).
