On April 26, 2015, the Sunday of the Holy Myrrh-bearing Women a fundraiser banquet was held at the Holy Virgin Cathedral at 6700 Geary Blvd. in San Francisco, CA.

The fundraiser banquet was entitled “Joy & Mercy” and organized to benefit benevolent institution in Russia called Miloserdie (Compassion). Over the course of many years Miloserdie has tirelessly labored to bring aid and consolation both material and moral to the infirm, children in need, the homeless, the elderly, refugees and many more. Hundreds of volunteers have been involved in the many services that Miloserdie has been providing. To deliver this aid to so many people by the organization donations have always been necessary. However, do to the change in the financial climate in Russia, many benefactors there who supported Miloserdie in the past have not been able to do so at this time, thus the purpose of the banquet here in California.

The banquet was an evening event which included a five-course meal, a photo exhibit by Archpriest Peter Perekrestov, a silent auction and two concerts. The event began with a performance by the quartet Amaranth, which played selections of classical music by Beethoven and Shubert. Then, later during the presentation of dessert, guests enjoyed a San Francisco premier performance by Kathy Karpenko. Miss Karpenko displayed her outstanding talent by singing love ballads and contemporary folks songs in Russian, Spanish, French and English accompanying herself on the guitar.

The banquet was filled to capacity, meeting the goal of 100 elegant and festive settings. Participants included diocesan and guest clergy, and the Consul General in San Francisco Sergey V. Petrov and his wife. Not a few of Father Peter’s photographs were sold and many participated in the silent auction. During the meal an informative documentary was shown presenting the good work performed by Miloserdie. Afterwards an appeal was made to donate funds for this worthy cause.

All proceeds from the fundraiser banquet go to Miloserdie. Many thanks go to all who worked so hard at organizing and presenting this event: Archpriest Peter Perekrestov, Victoria Belonogoff, Elena Olkhovsky, Susan Motoviloff, Xenia Maximow and Sergey and Valeria Fedotov and many other volunteers.

Special thanks go to guest chef Milos Ribic, who also offered his services gratis.

Donations for Miloserdie are still being accepted by mailing a check to Western American Diocese, 598 -- 15th Ave., San Francisco, CA 94118, memo Miloserdie or one can pay via PayPay here.
